changing colors in charts
I'm trying to change the color of a chart region based on a report parameter
and I'm not having any luck. Can any one tell me where I change this? I see
all of the available color palattes, but I don't want to use those. The
regions need to be a specific color based on the report parameter option that
was choosen by the user.
ThanksYou will need RS 2000 with SP1 or later. In that case, you can control the
color of data points based on an expression. Please check the "Chart Styles"
section under 4.1.3 in the SP1 Readme:

Changing color of the report parameter viewer tool bar
I am wondering to know if there is a way to change the color of the SQL
Report parameter strip when the report is rendered. I tried changing a few
classes in the Reportingservice.css file but those changes reflect only in
the outer region(the container of the report, not the frame). When the report
is rendered, a new css file named "8.00.743.00HtmlViewer.css" is generated
dynamically which is holding control to the class files used by different
items in that tool bar. How would I get access to this newly generated css
file or howelse could I change the color of the tool bar that contains items
like "Find", "Export" buttons. Awaiting your suggestion.
Thanks

RS SP1 has additional url access parameter Stylesheet that specifies a =style sheet to be applied to the HTML viewer..
You need to make your own file and save it to 'C:\Program =Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Reporting =Services\ReportServer\styles\custom.css'

Changing color of the details depending on the value of the field
I am using Reporting Services with SQL Server 2000 (SP3).
I am trying to build in dynamic coloring into my report depending on the
value in a certain field. Query already returns name of the color I would
like to use as an additional field (color conditions are driven by range of
data certain value falls into and stored in the database ). I simple need to
pick color stored in this field( it is Dataset field Color) and apply to
particular cell (possibly entire row) when rendering report. Colors are
returned as names: GREEN,RED,GREY etc.
Is there an easy way to accomplish this in Reporting Services?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
IgorSelect the cell you want to colorize according to the value. Change the
BackColor property and use a VB expression instead of a hard-coded
color. Use the equal sign "=" in order to use a VB expression, just
like this :
=Fields!Color.Value
Since Green, Red and Gray are know colors, they will be authorized.
You also can do something like this (if my sales rate is under 50%, I
colorize in Red, otherwise, in green) :
=IIF(Fields!SalesRate.Value < 50, "Red", "Green")|||Thanks a lot Julich! It worked perfectly! I would actually like to stored
color logic inside that database so that query returns color instead of
having RS making this decisions.
Thanks again,
Igor

Changing an existing Crystal 8.0 report to use stored proc
I have approximately 34 Crystal 8 reports that currently run off embedded sql statements. I need to change these to run off stored procedures, and am not sure how to convert them.
The returned columns are the same, although the queries have changed slightly.
If I attempt to directly change the SQL through "Show SQL Query" it doesn't take. I also tried "Set Location" which only replaces the table name with the sp name, and also fails.
If I build a new report from scratch, it works, but this is very time consuming and error prone.
Can someone tell me how to change the existing reports to use the sp's?
Thanks,
JamesShow SQL Query wont' allow u to change existing sql.
Report object has SQLQueryString String type. Gets or sets SQL query string. Read/Write Can be written only when formatting idle which according to crystal allows you to change sql at runtime. Maybe this would help. Change this to your procedure name systematically.
Thanks

changing a stored proc dataset w/parameters
data sets are stored procs with parameters. The issue I'm getting is when I
try to preview the report it is still wants the old parameters. I changed
the dataset value in the table properties and hit refreshed in the data pane.
Any suggestions.Query parameters and report parameters are two different things. When you
are creating or modifying the dataset query parameters (or in your case
stored procedure) parameters are detected and report parameters are created.
The report parameters stick around unless you delete them. In layout view,
Report Menu->Report Parameters. Click on the parameter and delete it.

Changes to table not reflected in report
I usa a SQL server for my windows application project. I have created a Crystal report, using .NET dataset connections. I made changes to one of the tables used in the report, and I updated the dataset. I then opened the report and used the "Verify database" feature, but the changes are not reflected. This worked before in the same report with changes to the same table. It seems like it does not work in any of my reports (using different datasets).
I have spent a good hour searching knowledge bases and forums, but found nothing. Anyone here that can help me? (I'm a bit pressed for time, close to deadline and all)
Thanks in advanceHave you checked EnableSaveDataWithReport and made sure its set off (either thru the menu option) or thru your code? Hope this helps|||Also Open the report and Do verify database|||Hi!
Thanks for the answers. The problem is solved for the moment. It seems that the "Verify database" functionality always works after I have run the applikation, a build is not enough. But If I start the app and then try to do the changes it seems to work....
So I consider it a bug that its not enough to changes and save the dependant DS... but as long as I get it to work I keep on. =)

Changes related to PDF in SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services
Hi All,
I am working on SQL Server 2005 reporting services. In reports I am required to make changes related to exporting report to PDF. Following are those changes:
1) Change PDF export page format to letter from legal
2) Fix page break to ensure that all details related to a specific issue are viewable on the same page
In reports exporting is done through the control given by services itself. So can any one please guide me regarding how this changes can be done. Please help me ASAP...
Thanks....
For (2), you will need to modify the RDL; try looking into the KeepTogether and RepeatWith settings on report items.
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/RSRDL/htm/rsp_ref_rdl_elements_ae_4ak3.asp|||
With regard to page breaks I can see a KeepTogether property that refers to the whole report but not to individual groups. There is no RepeatWith setting within my rdl (SQL2005).
I would like my report to group on a particular field but don't want it to break before or after the report header / footer. Any idea how I can do this?
Changes on the design of the templates not showing
locally, and then deploy and upload to the server. I haven't been able to see
those changes on the working website. I have the following:
Windows 2003 SP1
IIS 6.0
.Net Framework 1.1 SP2
SQL 2000 Enterprise Edition
SQL Reporting Services
SQL SP4
Visual Studio 2003
Am I missing something? I made the changes on the reports' solution file,
built, then deploy. After that, I went to the other solution (the one that
has my aspx application) then built.
Can somebody help me please? I have been trying a lot of different things
but nothing seems to work.
Thank you!!!I would first check that the target url for your report project is infact the
server you are attempting to update. Next, use report manager on your server
to verify the file date of your newly modified report.
If those all seem in order, you may need to reset IIS. I've noticed these
report formats (not the data) often cache themselves on the IIS server.
Hope that helps!

that the date of the reports in the localhost/Reportserver are really old,
and the weird thing is that the files that I have on my folder are the ones I
just modified. Is there anyway I can find out were the reports of that
localhost/Reportserver are located on the hard disk?
Another thing is that I am working with 2 computers, in one I have the VS
2003 where I am doing the changes on the reports' design, and the other one
is the server where I have the database and the rest of the stuff. So what I
do is that I deploy (I changed the Overwrite property to true), then build
the report.sln, then build the complete application. Does this affect
somehow?

Changed a parameter to multi-value and now it doesn't work
running the report. One of them is a field that the user can type in a value
for. It's defined as a string and allows a blank value in the event the user
does not want to enter anything. It works fine when not multi-value. But
when I change it to multi-value, the report brings back nothing when the user
does not enter any values.
The related dataset code for this field (tracking_number) is
...
WHERE (D.name IN (@.name) OR ('-1' IN (@.name)))
AND (D.tracking_number IN (@.tracking_number) OR '' IN (@.tracking_number))
AND (D.promo_code IN (@.promo_code) or '-1' IN (@.promo_code))
...
Any help would be appreciated.
StephanieRemove the multi-value property. that is not really meant for a text field,
only for instances where one might choose from multiple values of a drop down
list.

string. you have to parse out the string in the sproc to break it up into its
component pieces.
Without seeing what you are doing, I dont understand why you "cant add
multiple values for the field." tha field just wraps a single quote around
whatever is there and passes it in as the parameter.
in my test, I put in 1,2,3,4,5 into my text box. what was passed in to my
sproc was '1,2,3,4,5' <note the addition of the single quotes>. If this is
not happening for you, you may want to make things easier on you and just
have a multi-valued dropdown list. At least that way you are not hostage to
your users spelling ability.

the beginning and the end is not helpful. The user does not what a drop-down
list because the number of values that would be there would be very large.
They want to type in something like: CIM070524001,CIM070522002. They want to
be able to type in one or multiple values.
Can you test with a string and let me know how that goes? I just can't get
it to work.

type of property cannot be controlled; but, hopefully it will be

Change the Shared Data Source when deploying
I can move everything fine, but when I go to execute a report, it says
invalid data source, even though the data source exists with the same name as
it did on the original server. I can manually go through each report and
point them to the data source and it works fine, but I need to get this
working with little or no intervention.
--
JasonMake sure you create the shared datasource first before deploying any
reports that reference it, it should get picked up fine then.

Change the Report Manager Interface
I was hoping to modify the default interface for the Report Manager to feel
more like our other online reporting pages. I found a few articles about
creating asp.net web applications and all that, but was hoping just to change
the color scheme, place an image somewhere, etc...
is this possible? if so, how easy is it and are there any good resources out
there?
Thanks!

http://ovstravelfolio.com/Hi Ben,
You can edit the stylesheet that's located
<ReportManagerRoot>/Styles/ReportingServices.css (with a default
installation the path should be "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL
Server\MSSQL\Reporting
Services\ReportManager\Styles\ReportingServices.css") to change the
color-scheme, fonts, etc...
Editing the physical layout of the portal isn't that easy and not very
practical. You would most likely need to replace the Pages.aspx page and
override the Pages class where you would inject / replace the layout
changes. You can however replace the default images and icons that are
already present in the layout. These are located in
<ReportManagerRoot>/images.
Hope this was of some help.

Change the Parameter in an query
Each page summarized the total sales for one agency.
Everything works great except for one total "Adjustments:"
An agency can have one order but have 50 adjustments to that order.
That is why the Adjustments can not be included in the "dsReport" query.
For that reason the Adjustments number is calculate with its own query
(dsAdjustments). but gets two parameters ClearanceID and MagazineID.
NOW the problem.
The help file says to create two parameters. ClearanceID and MagazineID.
Declear them internal.
Link them to the fields: ClearanceID and MagazineID.
Then the dsAdjustments query can refreance the paramters ClearanceID and
MagazineID.
When the report is run the dsAjustments query gets it value from the
parameters ClearanceID and MagazineID and then returns a number. That is how
I get the adjusments.
This works if I lookup only one Agency. But if there are two or more
agencies in the report the parameters ClearanceID and MagazineID are only
fill in at the begining of the report. All the other Agencies reports ty to
use the first agency adjustmets numbers.
Question: How do I get the parameters ClearanceID and MagzineID to update
for every new Agency''
Thank you
Scott BurkeRead up on subreports. Subreports are exactly for this sort of this.
Master-detail type reports pretty much must be done using subreports.

For some reason unknow to everyone I talked to the Report server tends to
lose/ can't find the subreport!!!!!
The last time it happed I had to redeploy the main report. That did not
work this time.
We only had the report server for four months! I dont look forward to
redeploying the CommisionSummaryReport every two months!
my solution is to replace the subreport. Besides running faster the only
problem I am having is getting the right values to the dsAdjustment query.
My only problem is getting the right ClearanceID and MagazineID value to the
query.
Is it possible to load a value into the parameters?
I am trying this in the textbox:
=Parameters!MagazineID.Value = Fields!MagazineID.Value
=(Fields!Adjustment.Value, "dsAdjustment")
The problem here is that "=Parameters!MagazineID.Value =Fields!MagazineID.Value" is being treaded like a comparason. The textbox
displays "True" or "False".
Any Ideals?

subreports. Not only have I never seen this but I have not seen any posting
about losing subreports. Makes me wonder what is unusual about your
environment.
Read up on drill-down (not drill through). Basically you have a single query
that contains all your information. The master information is repeated for
every row. Then you design your report to drill-down (click on a + sign to
see more) OR if you don't want to use drill down UI then you just hide the
master information when it is in the above row.
What you are trying to do will not work.

be able to change the color or font etc. so that I can tell without
having to look in the address box to figure out what server I am on.
Is there a value I can change somewhere that will do this for me?Hi Lou,
you could just edit the style sheet
\Reporting Services\ReportManager\Styles\ReportingServices.css
